Kamala Harris, in full Kamala Devi Harris, (born October 20, 1964, Oakland, California, U.S.), American politician who was elected to the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in 2016 and began her first term representing California in that body the following year. She was the first Indian American to serve as a U.S. senator as well as the second African American woman. Harris previously was the state’s attorney general (2011–17). In November 2020 she was elected vice president of the United States on a ticket with Joe Biden.

She also implemented a ban on assault weapons and bought progressive tax reforms. She also questioned the officials of Trump Administration during her hearings like William Barr. She also served in the state unemployment insurance appeals board and later medical assistance commission. Heading San Francisco as an attorney, she also served as the chief of the criminal division. She was in charge of supervising five other attorneys. On supervising, she found Burglary, robbery, and sexual assault cases. Soon she gave her resignation and took hold of San Francisco city hall. Harris was smart and hard-working. She started the campaign that disrupted the stereotypes of Black women. Ethics Commission of San Francisco held Harris guilty of violating the city’s Campaign law by exceeding the expenditure limit. Harris accepted the blame as she was of the opinion that a leader has to shoulder the full responsibility for everything and said that no leader is perfect.
Harris accused Hallinan that he promotes people in his office without merit and due to this, she left his office. After this, Harris won the elections of the U.S senate. Upon this victory, she vowed to protect Immigrants. She condemned the executive order by Donald Trump by terming it as a Muslim Ban. She disapproved of sexual harassment and misconduct. People in administration praised her as effective and well prepared. Harris has worked on Major bills like bail reform bill, workplace harassment bill, and bipartisan bills. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan had emigrated from Tamil Nadu, India in 1960 to pursue a doctorate in endocrinology at UC Berkeley.

The young Kamala Harris first attended Thousand Oaks Elementary School. When Kamala was 12 years old, her mother moved the family to Canada and started performing research work at the Jewish General Hospital and teaching at the McGill University.
