Chance the Rapper, as he is professionally known as, is an American hip hop recording artist who gained fame for his rap style of music. Born as Chancelor Johnathan Bennett in Chicago, Illinois, Bennett since an early age had a passion for singing. He wanted to be a musician much against his father’s desire of him doing a white-collared job. In fact, Bennett even formed his own hip-hop duo Instrumentality, with a friend.

A soul and jazz enthusiast, it was Kanye Wests debut album The College Dropout that drifted Bennetts interest in hip-hop. Forsaking his studies, Bennett took to music professionally. Though he released several singles and a mixtape, it was his second mixtape, Acid Rap that truly launched his career. Bennetts  professional graph peaked further with his third mixtape Coloring Book that earned him three Grammy nominations.

It also became the first streaming-only album ever to receive a Grammy nomination. Other than his solo ventures, Bennett has clubbed with various other music magnums. He collaborated with the lead vocalist of the band The Social Experiment  to come up with a widely lauded album Surf.
