Personal Fact of Belle Boyd

Isabella Maria Boyd renowned as Belle Boyd was one of the most notorious Confederate spies during the American Civil War. Also known as Cleopatra of the Secession and Siren of the Shenandoah she started espionage in her teens. She conducted her espionage from her father Benjamin Reed’s hotel in Front Royal, Virginia. Her responsibilities involved passing vital information and supplies to the Southern troops.

Since she was still in her teens, it gave her an advantage of not being suspected by the Union troops. However when the press made her efforts public, she often got incarcerated, albeit for a few months every time. Her most significant achievement during her espionage was when she passed on crucial information to the Confederate General Stonewall Jackson in 1862 that aided his troops in reclaiming the town of Front Royal.

Moving to England she authored her memoir, Belle Boyd, in Camp and Prison. In England she delved into acting as well. During the later stage of her life she toured across United States giving sensational lectures about her espionage during the American Civil War.
