Personal Fact of Ethel Barrymore | |
Ethel Barrymore was an immensely talented and gifted American actor and stage performer. Coming from the Barrymore family of actors, she was somewhat destined to become an actor. Like other members of the family, young Barrymore couldn’t resist the temptation of the stage and soon made her foray as a stage actress during the New York City season of 1894. What gave Barrymore an edge over other artists of her generation was her youthful stage presence, energetic disposition and witty nature. Her distinctive style and brilliant voice quality helped her earn the title of the First Lady of American theatre. Interestingly, it were the English that first noticed her untapped talent and untouched beauty during her London tour. Barrymore did not limit herself to theatre and was seen actively performing for radio, television and films. She also earned an Academy Award for her performance in the film, None But A Lonely Heart. She inaugurated the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, opened by Shuberts family, way back in 1928, which exists and operates till date |
